Our Mission

MEMECO's Mission
MEMECO aims to create a collaborative network that connects educators, researchers, and artists across the Mediterranean to advance music education as a force for inclusion, creativity, and cultural understanding.
Our strategic vision is to build a community where all voices are valued, diversity is celebrated, and music serves as a bridge between people and cultures.
Through partnerships, research, and professional development opportunities, MEMECO aims to strengthen intercultural dialogue and promote equitable access to music education throughout the region and beyond.
About MEMECO
Mediterranean Music Education Committee
The Mediterranean Music Education Committee (MEMECO) was founded in 2025 to promote collaboration among educators, researchers, and artists dedicated to music education across the Mediterranean region and beyond.
Born from a shared belief that music is a powerful tool for connection, identity, and transformation, MEMECO brings together a diverse community of professionals who celebrate the cultural richness of the Mediterranean as a model for global diversity and inclusion.
MEMECO’s mission is to support dialogue between tradition and innovation in music education, encouraging exchange between schools, conservatories, universities, and community organizations. Through conferences, research, workshops, and performances, MEMECO seeks to amplify Mediterranean voices in the international music education community.
In 2026, MEMECO will proudly host the APME (Association for Popular Music Education) International Conference in Sulmona, Italy — marking the first time the event is held in a Mediterranean country.
